Additional Teaching Qualifications

Additional Qualifications (Teachable Subjects):

  • Special Education Part 1

  • Intermediate Geography

  • Senior Geography

Most of my teaching experience has been in Science, but I also really enjoy teaching Geography. My wife and I love to travel and explore our world. In all my adventures I like to experience both the physical and human aspects of the geographical regions and communities I visit. I also think my interest and experiences in geography compliment and strengthen my teaching in Science.

I am also proud of my experiences in Special Education. In 2011-12 I was recognized for my innovative work within the Autism Spectrum Disorder Classroom. I was asked to be Professional Site Collaborator for the Simcoe County School Board and I provided a variety of training and collaboration opportunities for other Special Education teachers.

Microsoft Innovative Educator

Online PD Training:

In 2017 I began innovating my teaching to web-based platform for lesson distribution. I have already completed 14 courses through the Microsoft Education Center and I have found the training and inspiration I gain from these courses has enabled me to make very modern, interactive and accessible lessons which improve the learning experience for all my students.

My skills and experience as a Microsoft Innovative Educator has proved to be extremely valuable in the transition to web-based learning during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Council of British Independent Schools

Middle Leadership Training

This was a 1-year program with a blended approach of learning through workshops, self-directed learning and face-to-face training. I particularly enjoyed learning about different leadership techniques and taking personal inventory of my leadership skills, and how I interact with my leaders.

This course complimented my appointment as the KS3 Science Coordinator (Middle School Science). I found the Leadership Challenge project was very rewarding and successful, as I addressed the gap of improving Scientific Investigation Skill in year 7.

Cambridge International Examination Board Training

A-Level Marine Science

Face-to-Face Training - Boca Raton, Florida

The A-Level (Year 12-13) Marine Science program is my favorite course to teach. I co-teach this course and I greatly appreciate how our collaborative teamwork  helped us deliver an extremely successful course.

This CIE professional development helped me understand the high standards and detailed expectations of the Cambridge International Examinations Board. It has informed my teaching strategies, and inspired me to modify my class assessments to best prepare students for their external examinations.
